Donald Trump on Wednesday drew a sharp contrast between how he saw himself during his first term as president compared to now, during his second administration, when he told a reporter: “I was the hunted. Now I’m the hunter.”
The president made the remark during the unveiling of massive new flagpoles outside the White House.
Trump was asked: “What gave you the idea to do this?
He replied: “I’ve had it for a long time. The first time I had it, you know, you guys were after me and I said, ‘I had to focus.’ I was the hunted and now I’m the hunter. It’s a big difference.”
Trump’s MAGA base, including far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), predictably lapped up the comment.
But critics weren’t impressed. Many panned the line, suggesting it sounded like something from a cliché action movie.
